LITERATURE CIRCLE IS FUN!!!!!
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
Students of Grade 5 have started a mind blowing literature circle. Its the unit in English they are bucking up!!
Definitely they are the students of TGES Implementing TFU, Rajkot, India.
The students Shubhanshi Gaudani, Aaryaa Kamdar, Yatharth Dave, Khushi Doshi and Anjali Jakasania are having a very nice time reading the book "YEAR OF NO RAIN" by Alice Mead, while others are reading and having discussions about the books Rat Squad, My Guinea pig is innocent, Go to the dragon maker, Front page story and The spell of trouble.
Want to read more about this interesting book come on lets start our journey
Our Journey Throughout The First Literature Circle Of Ours!!!!
- Literature Circle discussion and playing roles
Now, first of all what is a LITERATURE CIRCLE???
Okay, A literature circle is a time when a group of people read a book together and discuss about their point of views and their predictions. But how does everyone manage together???
So this was what we did, according to our teacher Mrs. Prina Thaker we had chosen our roles. Discussion leader, connector, summarizer, literary reactor, wordsmith, Compare and contrast leader and a researcher. Of course you'd be confused, but not after this.
Discussion leader- To lead the discussions after reading some amount of text or each chapter. The discussion leader personally reads or gives others chances, poses questions like
What do you think what will happen to Stephen?[ main character]
Do you think this is a trick of old Garang [Thought to be a villain].
Connector- Connects text to world, himself or other books.Like This book to the front page story or any dance part to our birthday parties, etc.
Summarizer- Every time summarizes the text read into short lines.
Literary reactor- Reacts to any part of speech or any question that the discussion leader or the other has asked. The person thinks deep and reacts to how the author has put twists and turns in the story.
Wordsmith- To tell the meaning of any word not clear to the group member.
Compare and contrast leader- To compare the part of the story in different roles like Stephen to Old Garang. Their positive points and negative points.
Researcher- To research On facts that are supposed to be real. Like neighboring countries of south Sudan cuisine, culture, climate, etc....
List of students playing their roles
Discussion leader - Shubhanshi gaudani
Connector- Aaryaa Kamdar
Summarizer- Anjali Jakasania
Literary reactor- Yatharth Dave
Researcher- Khushi Doshi
Wordsmith- Aaryaa Kamdar and Shubhanshi Gaudani
Compare and contrast leader- Anjali Jakasania
Second part of our journey:
Now we started playing our roles. Of course you'll hesitate for the first time but it will be okay when children will start playing their roles as per the needs.
Tips we would recommend-
Discussion leader should pose many intelligent questions that would make the other team members put their thinking caps on.......
The connector should be experienced enough to make sensible connections to the world, self and other book.
The summarizer should have the ability to think up summaries fast in mind and speak it out fluently at the end of the chapter.
The literary reactor should be able to think deep and out of the box and should be able to answer the discussion leaders questions.
The researcher should find answers not only from the net but also from people, books, etc.......The answers should be accurate and connect to the story.
The wordsmith should have a good vocabulary and should know the meanings that the group hesitates in understanding.
The compare and contrast leader should make effective differences between the book and the other characters present in the book.
3-We really enjoyed in the literature circle having many thoughts circling around with tons and tons of humor. We came across questions like:
-Why can't a wife have more than 1 husband if a husband can have 2 wives?
-Can the wife be elder than the husband in olden times in teenage?
4) Our last step was making our final products on the book. Believe us or not you or we both can come up with amazing products by doing divergent and convergent thinking.
Divergent thinking- We think out of the box, very unique ideas might not be possible but would always be interesting.!!!!!
Convergent thinking- Now you need to setup your brains because you are gonna think some of the realistic fab ideas....here you will think only ideas that suite your audience and the story. The idea should fulfill your purpose....
Okay out of the ideas you got in convergent thinking now after you get the product you are making start to make!!!We bet you'd enjoy it very much....
Our sweet memories

Anjali Jakasania doing DIVERGENT thinking............

Fabulous job done guys!!! You have explained everything in detail so well that a person who is doing Literature Circle first time would get this clear in their head. The photos about your experience reading the book are very nice but they look like you have posed and taken the pictures. You should take some reality pictures where-in you are really doing this stuff. But overall this was fab. This is a new idea of making a product and this is a great achievement. You are successful in making and publishing it. Well done and Keep it Up Guys..... You should be proud of yourselves friends!!!

ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful blog, my best was the introduction to the literature circle and books, it was done in a very beautiful way. I think you should remove the repeatation of n in Yartharh's photo caption, the one that says thinking caps are onnnnnnn...... I even think there are too many dots after a word, when you say for eg. it was a very nice time........ there should be only to 3 to 4. even the very very very very nice time is not sounding good, the repeatation of very.
ReplyDeleteP.S. can you tell me which web site did you use for this blog.
By: Vedant Patel
it is very nice and you have used good vocalbulary and it was very nice you had lot of group work and hard work and everyone was participating and it was fabulous perfomous guys!! KEEP IT ON.

ReplyDeletewe will improve our spelling mistakes
DeleteIt's a Fab job done by your group. I really enjoyed your blog, especially the beggining.I found some punctuation mistakes where you said - .Like This book to the front page story or any dance part to our birthday parties, etc. In this line the first two words are having a capital letter. Overall this is marvellous. Can you give me the from where you made this?
ReplyDeletePriyank thank you for this feedback and do visit www.blogger.com for making a blog. this is a site from google+. once again thank you for this detailed and helpful feedback
Deletethe flow of the passage is very well and you have done a hard work to achieve your goal.......and you can add some more details.
ReplyDeleteGood one ! impressive role explanation , wonderful vocabulary , great vocabulary , great content. This is a marvellous product
ReplyDeleteThis shows your great team work as u all have rich vocabulary and your content is also very nice and you have explained most of the things this was a really really Fabulous and marvelous job!!! Even i need to learn from u all please teach me :)
ReplyDeleteYOu all ave explained the roles very good!!!! Nice vocabulary used. There are no spelling mistakes. Overall Fab job done!!!
ReplyDeleteYour group did a great job. As you mentioned your experience about literature circle and the roles of the same. It's clear and precise
ReplyDeleteIt is a brilliant effort shown from you. You took a completely new thing and made it perfect. A spelling mistake in "Summarizer" even though its wrong when we type it as of I know, Summarizer is the correct spelling. You have explained the roles beautifully, and the tips are fab! The questions don't really click unless you have read the book but its fine. The spelling of "Experience" is wrong as well, so you need to take care of it. I agree with Vedant that the repetition is not necessary. As we discussed in class, try and put photos that don't show your front face. At the beginning, you have written 'what was literature circle'. You need to change that 'was' to is. Overall, you have created a brilliant product. It was a great time going through your blog.
ReplyDeleteOkay we will try and workout write now on the feedback you have given us friends.
ReplyDeleteseems you all have given a lot of critical feedback
